Two ErePrijzen for 2009

10 January 2010 - Linda Fairwether Nash and Jaap Drijver are kept constantly busy with their work for the website and e-Newsletter.

The board felt that it was time to honour them with the Residents Association’s ErePrijs. Chairman Wybe Taekema did the honours during the New Year’s Reception in the Klokhuis.

(This is a prize, in the form of a decorative, silver pin designed and made by local resident Eva Drijver. awarded annually to a local volunteer who has given exceptional service to the community.)

ErePrijs 2009 -

Jaap Drijver

In gratitude for all his work for the Archipel & Willemspark website. As webmaster, Jaap has taken care of all the technical aspects of the website since the summer of 2003.

He enthusiasm for solving technical problems

has also been instrumental in the successful realization of the e-Newsletter (2008) and the digital billboard (2009).

During community fairs and other events he is always happy to become involved and, with his relaxed manner, help make the occasion a success.

ErePrijs 2009 -

Linda Fairwether Nash

In gratitude for all her work for the Archipel & Willemspark website since its inception in 2002.

With great meticulousness Linda takes care of the English-language section of the site, adding extra local news of interest to the many international residents in the community.

Her expertise in graphic design is evident in many of the A&W productions: website, newsletter, digital billboard and the birthday calendar from 2004.

Launch of A&W billboard in Citronics

Saturday 20 March 2010 - Willemspark gets its own digital billboard. The one in Archipel (in the window of the Albert Heijn supermarket) has been up and running for a few months now, displaying community news and a foretaste of what there is to find on the community website.

Telecommunication products shop Citronics in Frederikstraat has made space available in their window for the second A&W "street" billboard so that the local residents around Javastraat and Frederikstraat can more easily catch up on what’s going on in the neighbourhood. More detailed information about the announcements can always be found on the community website <http://www.archipelwillemspark.nl>

Would you like to let your fellow residents about your activity or event? Then send your message to auke@archipelbuurt.nl and it will be posted on the billboard via the website.

Because there is also a screen in the Klokhuis Community Centre, the billboad can now be viewed at three different locations.

Launch of A&W billboard in Albert Heijn

Alderman Huffnagel launches A&W digital billboard

11 November 2009  - In the rain and in the presence of other council representatives, members of the A&W Residents Association, Albert Heijn employees and passersby, Alderman Huffnagel officially activated the Digital Billboard hanging in the corner window of the supermarket. Passersby will be alerted to all that is currently happening in the community and referred to the community website for further details.

Launch of digital billboard planned for 11 November 2009

The A&W digital billboard was installed in Albert Heijn’s window on Thursday 5 November 2009. After a short proof run, Alderman Huffnagel will officially launch the billboard on Wednesday 11 November at 13.00.

The billboard displays various bulletins about upcoming events, activities and news in the community and also references to the kind of information that can be found on the community website: www.archipelwillemspark.nl. Another billboard has already been in service for some time in the Klokhuis Community and the Residents Association is looking for a third suitable location, this time in Frederikstraat.

June 2009 - Our Residents Association – like many other associations in The Hague – is busy making preparations for a community billboard or newspaper. The initial (test) versions can be seen in the Klokhuis Community Centre. A monitor will also be on display in the window of Albert Heijn and also somewhere in Frederikstraat.

The uninitiated probably think it is just a case of putting a few photos and announcements on the screen for people to look at. But it is not quite as simple as that!

To get things on the road, the website team and  board member Auke Bloembergen have been working on ideas and designs with a vengeance, but ultimately the idea is that a small working party should take over the running of this digital news source.

Who is the billboard for?

Naturally this new innovation is meant for all our fellow residents, but different groups have different requirements. First of all, there are those who read the messages at a glance as they pass by. Then there are those who would rather sit (in the Klokhuis) and take their time reading what’s on the screen. Then there is what we think is the “ideal” situation, those who use the Digital Billboard in combination with the Website. Although there is still a long way to go before everybody is computer literate, the Billboard still has an important role to play.

Word and deed

The Hague Council is helping the people who will be “filling” the Billboard pages in word and deed on the technological front (because it is no easy matter getting everything onto the screen just the way you want it!) and with practical tips like no long-winded text, keep it short and to the point, keep the words simple and check carefully for typing errors and indicate clearly any address or website where more information can be found.

When the Digital Billboard will be up and running throughout The Hague and here in our neighbourhood is still not clear, but every effort is being made to realize this as quickly as possible.
