Have your say during Day of Dialogue What do we have in common? This is the central theme of the national Dag van de Dialoog to be held in The Hague on 6 and 7 November. Institutions throughout The Hague open their doors to the public to afford 500 citizens the chance to take part in these round-the-table talks. This initiative was born in Rotterdam after September 11 in 2001. It gives people the opportunity to talk about and share their thoughts on subjects important to them but not often discussed openly. More than 55 towns and villages in the Netherlands now take part in De Dag van de Dialoog, including The Hague. The discussions usually last for two to three hours and under the supervision of a panel chairperson are structured as follows: 1) Introductions; 2) Exchange of personal experiences relating to an appropriate theme; 3) Sharing personal dreams about the good life in the community and city. This requires an atmosphere of trust and open-mindedness around the table; 4) Turning these dreams for their community and city into reality. The ideas brought to the table and the contributions the participants themselves are prepared to make to put their ideas into practice are recorded. They then go their separate ways feeling inspired and involved.
Then come along on Friday evening 6 November to the Community Centre ‘t Klokhuis or the Vredeskapel where you will be most welcome to join the discussion around the table. The doors open at 19.00 and the talk start at 19.30. Please register by e-mailing or ringing Annemieke Leidekker at aleidekker@steknet.nl or 06-51107070. You can also to put yourself forward as a panel chairperson. A free, short day course at the end of October will be available to aspirant panel chairpersons. Again please register with Annemieke Leidekker or via the website www.denhaagindialoog.nl.

Written appeals for justice from the heart… Sample letters and writing materials are all provided and we’re happy to give any assistance required. The main reason for writing is to stop the violation of human rights. A stream of protest letters can improve the conditions of a prisoner or even lead to release. Writing does make a difference!
