Haagse Kakkers for the prize winners

6 February 2010 - When the winners of the Photo Competition were announced, Auke and Manon were away in more arctic and tropical climes, respectively.

Manon was the first to return and was duly presented al fresco with her Haagse Kakker.

She took many more lovely photos during the pre-Christmas winter weather, including a beautiful shot of Hotel Des Indes in the snow. Manon will be sending in her photos to the Vrienden van Den Haag (Friends of The Hague society), of which she is a member, in the hope that at least one will be chosen for the society's annual series of greetings cards.

In the meantime, her beauty salon "Le Tournesol" at Mallemolen 55-11 is getting ready to celebrate five years of doing business in Archipel&Willemspark!

9 February 2010 - Auke has also now returned and is the proud recipient (while it lasts) of his Haagse Kakker.

With a view of a rather less radiant Olympus Tower in the background, he talks about the pleasure he gets from taking photographs. He notices everything as he walks through the neighbourhood; all the different balconies for example. He plans to make a photo reportage of them all. The community newspaper and website are very lucky to be able to profit from his hobby on a regular basis

Once again thank you Auke and Manon for

taking part in the competition and congratulations.

PRIZE WINNERS

20 January 2010 – The Webteam received some terrific winter photos from local residents. Shots of snowmen ...

women ... and children seemed to be particularly popular.

Auke van der Kooi’s entry was chosen as the best photo. The Olympus Tower towering and dazzling in the

sunlight above the De Monchypein, dazzled the Webteam, too.

The close runnerup was Manon Lavèn of Willemspark with her intimate al fresco dining scene in the Mallemolen hofje.

2nd Prize Manon Lavèn

Both prize winners will receive a Haagse Kakker (warm from the oven) for their efforts.

Local photographer Karen Kommer, who regularly takes photos for the website, also qualifies for an extra showing of her delightful “Snow Family” photo.

The heavy snowfall that began around 20 December led to an veritable explosion in the snowman population.
