An extraordinary, but temporary shop opened its doors in the Prinsestraat on 11 March 2009. El Hema, the Arab version of the traditional Dutch shopping chain Hema, is a cross between a gallery, store, stage and lunch cafe.

Rabiaâ Benlahbib from Kosmopolis Den Haag was responsible for bringing the ‘pop-up temporary store’ to The Hague. The Hema in The Hague supported this initiative. El Hema is a concept from Mediamatic Amsterdam, a workshop which provides a forum for Arab and Dutch designers to meet one another and work together.
