The Church of St. John and St. Philip is a friendly international Anglican church with members from more than 40 countries and many Christian denominations. About a third of its members are Dutch. Sunday services range from traditional to more contemporary and informal in style. There are groups for children and young people aged 0-18, as well as additional youth activities during the week.

There has been an Anglican Church in The Hague since 1586. It has occupied four buildings on different sites, and the present building was consecrated in 1952. The bell that calls the congregation to worship on Sundays is the original bell from the first church building.

As well as its religious services, charity and missionary work, the English Church offers a wide range of activities, including playgroups for the young, bazars, concerts, Scottish dancing, ballet lessons, choral singing and even a cricket match.

Choirs

Adult Choir

The adult Choir consists of about 20 good amateur singers and four conservatory students. Our main task is to help the congregation express their worship of God through "psalms, hymns and spiritual songs". We have a very wide repertoire, ranging from plainsong through traditional hymns to modern worship songs, as well as anthems and canticle settings by Tallis, Byrd, Purcell, Stanford, Wood, Howells and others. We rehearse in church on Fridays, 7.45-10.00 p.m., and half an hour before services, which are at 11.00 a.m. every Sunday, as well as Choral Evensong at 5.00 p.m. on third Sundays, and Matins at 9.45 a.m. on fourth Sundays.

For further details, please contact the organist and choirmaster, Christina Edelen, via the church office.

Junior Choir

The junior choir is aimed at those aged 5-11. Rehearsals take place every Friday afternoon, and the choir sings at the monthly All Age Worship service at 11 a.m. on the fourth Sunday of the month. The choir is affiliated to the Royal School of Church Music, and provides an excellent opportunity for children to grow in their Christian faith and to learn to read music and sing together.

For further details, please contact the Junior Choir director, Emma Coffey, via the church office.
