February 2010 - The last of the three poplars proudly lining the area in the van Repelaer Woods where dogs are allowed to run free has been felled. Not a victim of storms like the first two a few years ago, but of the saw. This specimen towered above the houses for years but because of disease had become a danger to the immediate surroundings. Still standing in the photo with the topmost branches missing, but a few hours later all that was left was the stump. MW
The vegetation had become very dense and was growing too close to the houses of the Javalaantje Hof. Paths had subsided and become virtually impassable. This means that the dogs do their business next to or on the paths and the faeces can be easily removed: hopefully by the owners! MW, January 2010 Autumn has arrived in van Repelaer Woods

An attractive brick wall (more than 30 metres long) bounding the Van Repaelar woods (conservation area) has recently been replaced with this utilitarian fencing. The municipal council gave its permission. Does this mean that shortly the remaining walls around the wood – an oasis of peace in the Archipelbuurt – will be demolished? Completely destroying the tranquil atmosphere. What do you mean, conservation area? Who is protecting what?
