Freelancers Network meeting 26 April

The A&W’s Entrepreneur Network (Ondernemersnetwerk Archipel & Willemspark) organises regular network meetings for freelancers in our neighbourhood. The theme of each meeting has a particular bearing on living and working as a self-employed person. The theme this time is:

NETWERKEN MET MEER PLEZIER & MEER RESULTAAT
(enjoying networking & being more effective)

Networking is not as easy as it’s cooked up to be and can be quite an ordeal. Where do you find those interesting contacts? Hoe do you reach your goal? What should you expect … and what do you have to offer?

Marion Toorenvliet conducts practical exercises to help you lay the foundation for an effective networking approach. The focus will be on good preparation, enabling you to interact with confidence and vision.

In autumn 2011 Marion Toorenvliet and Stella Zerbo began organising regular network meetings for freelancers in our neighbourhood. The theme of each meeting has a particular bearing on living and working as a self-employed person.

LOSLATEN VAN BELEMMERINGEN
(letting go of mental blocks)

As entrepreneurs we have to make choices, take the initiative, respond to new developments, etc. Sometimes this is straightforward. Sometimes we are held back by our own perceptions, behaviour patterns, emotions and convictions.

Self-help coach Liesbeth van Woerden will explain how the Sedona Method can help us to let go of unhelpful mental blocks. Not only in word but also in deed: practical exercises demonstrating how easy and simple it is to let go. The result: a more receptive attitude to new ideas and other options for solving problems as well as a more positive mindset.

13 October 2011
FIRST MEETING

The first get together of the new A&W Self-Employed Network, conducted by Marion Toorenvliet and Stella Zerbo, was well attended. There were fourteen local entrepreneurs round the table in the Coachhuis on Raamweg on Thursday 13 October. The theme for the evening was ‘How do I sell my product or service?’

Two of the fourteen participants were internationals and those present included a Nordic sport events organizer and coach, a conflict prevention mediator, two sustainability experts, a parenting coach (featured in the June 2011 issue of the A&W community newspaper), a ceramic tiles specialist, a Sedona self-help coach, a photographer and a safari organizer!

After initial introductions, the evening kicked off with a brainstorming session about themes from A – Z for future meetings. This threw up some interesting possibilities, Yin and Yan and the X-factor numbering among the more novel ideas.

‘How do I sell my product or service?’
Next came an in-depth analysis of one participant’s concerns about achieving continuity in selling her services. Everyone was very generous with their advice and tips, resulting in an extremely constructive interchange of ideas and expertise.

More about cooperation rather than social networking
It became clear during the evening that social networking is not all that it’s cracked up to be. What seems to prove more effective is actually pooling or referring on knowledge and expertise, in other words a cooperative structure. Some believed that this could have the potential in the long run to bring in larger, multi-disciplined assignments.

It was altogether a very stimulating evening and an eye-opener to the amazing diversity amongst the self-employed in Archipel and Willemspark.
